After School Special...

Your body that had been soaking up the sun a week earlier, sits uncomfortably in a hard plastic seat. Your feet which danced barefoot in the waters nay but a couple days ago, sit sweating and itching in foreign socks and shoes. And surrounding you are the sleepy and unenthusiastic faces of students all wishing it was yesterday.

"Hello to all once again, and welcome to a new school year" the teacher would chirp.

...didn't you always love when teachers would say that? Then they would shut the classroom door, sealing your fate for another 10 months.

Yes indeed, another school year has reared it's ugly head. I suppose I don't have much to complain about. I didn't start until yesterday, since I somehow managed to schedule my thursdays and fridays off. It's deceptively decent sounding, but in return I have a night class, an online class and I'll still be working.

The two classes I had yesterday were...balanced. The first ruined my day and the second built it up again. The problem with my first class was that I learned four things:

  1. I need SPSS (statistical program)
  2. I need to frantically learn how to use SPSS since all my assignments apparently need it's use
  3. The prof apparently is one who likes to painfully squeeze every last minute out of the lecture
  4. Learning from a friend, my Addiction teacher is nuts, and not in the cool eccentric way
So I left the class feeling none-too-pleased at the less than stellar beginning to my school year. But luckily my Abnormal psych class was quite fun and seems fairly easy, so my foul mood was diminished.

I saw lotsa people I knew, spoke to most, missed a few I would have really liked to talk to...

Right... so that was that, not too shabby for a first day. Now I just have to get used to the fun-time isolation that accompanies the school year. Ironic how the campus has like 30,000 students, and I still feel alone. Well at least I'll see some civilization at badminton, and work. :)

Badminton Buddies you say? ...

Oops...yet again I've managed to forget about my blog...but it's been busy as usual.

I am quite happy to have learned that some fellow Hillcrestians have also joined the Badminton Club so I won't be completely alone. (Yes people I joined a week ago) And why join you may ask? Other than the fact that it's an amazing opportunity to stay in shape (especially during those fatty winter months), it's a good way to socialize, and most importantly get rid of that fun-time aggression and stress I build up over the school semesters.

So that's that. I did buy all my books about a week ago as well. The fun thing about going early is that you can get the cheapest used books. So for four psych textbooks it set me back only 230$ I believe and I'm borrowing my last book from my sis, so not too shabby.

What else? Ah yes I'm going to go see Idle Wild this upcoming tuesday with a couple of co-workers. Don't know too much about it, but I guess that'll be half the fun...

Well I'm at a loss for words...which is odd.

Toronto, Tires, and Tears...

Well it's been an exhausting few weeks.

The Toronto trip last week turned out to be pretty fun. I made lots of money, ate nothing for four days, and had little to no sleep. But it was still fun...minus the completely insane Toronto suicide drivers.

This is pretty much my first real day back in Ottawa since the 8th of August. This is mainly because after I got home from Toronto, the very next morning I went up to my cottage and came back yesterday. Now it just so happened that the two shifts I had scheduled for this week were in Arnprior (20 mins out from cottage) so I had the death-defying experience..I mean pleasure, of driving there myself. (And let me clarify "driving myself" does not mean driving by myself- oh how the parents road shotgun)

Now why is this important? Because the second time driving up there, as im entering the Canadian Tire parking lot (where I was working that day) I smash into a curb while turning, and completely destroy a tire. Now this is Katie we're taking about so nothing is that simple.

Of course my dad happens to be in the car at the time, because for some reason they thought I needed more practice driving (boy were they wrong!). But to really pour salt in the wound I did this all in front of 10 of my co-workers! In fact I had been staring at them when I hit the curb...so really they are to blame!
...
Ok maybe not. Either way, this little "tire incident" has set me back 329$ Why so expensive for a tire? Well because it's really two tires! Apparently, on a front wheel drive van you can't have just one tire replaced because it screws things up, so two are needed. (Though I do think there is a conspiracy out there to make me never ever have money)

So this has become quite the problem, since I'm still trying to pay for tuition, and my yet-to-be purchased books. I was also thinking of joining the Hillcrest badminton club which costs money... so really, I'm going to be severely broke until mid October I figure. But I guess this will just be filed under "life-lesson".

Well, I'm off to do mindless housework so I can earn a few extra dollars to pay off...anything at this point

Cheers,

Katie
